The following steps were performed by ESRI: Extracted data set from Dynamap/ZIP Code Boundary & Inventory Files v. 15.0. Created region features from the polygon features. Added the SQMI attribute and calculated its values. Added POP2007 attribute from ESRI Community Data. Added attribute POP07_SQMI and calculated its values. Added and calculated SUMBLKPOP attribute by overlaying 2007 U.S. Census Block Centroid Populations then summing the Census Block centroids that fall within each ZIP Code area. Converted the data set to SDC. Created ArcGIS® layer file (.lyr), projection file (.prj), and spatial indices.

The geospatial part of this data set was extracted from many sources. The data set was generalized and maintains 90% of the topology for ZIP code polygons while reducing the file size to within 25% of the size. Generalizing reduced the positional accuracy and can't be determined.
The shapefile is converted to SDC (Smart Data Compression) format using either ESRI SDC Data Development Kit Professional 2 (DDKP2) or tools in ArcGIS. The SDC data set is then loaded into ArcSDE® to verify and validate the geometry.
After processing, the data set is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
